Alternative provision
Placements for young people who need education outside a mainstream or special school setting, often alongside their existing school.
Alternative provision is education delivered outside a young person’s main school, for a young person who cannot, for the time being, access mainstream education successfully: often because of anxiety, school avoidance, exclusion, or a previous placement that has broken down.
Elysian’s alternative provision uses the same animal-assisted, individualised approach as its full-time therapeutic education, at a level and pace suited to a young person who is transitioning, being supported alongside another school, or building back up to a fuller timetable.
As with therapeutic education, alternative provision placements are arranged through a local authority or a young person’s existing school. Commissioners can find the referral process on the Refer or enquire page.
