Our Provision We work with children and young people with anxiety and a range of complex emotional and mental health needs during term time, and all ages outside of term time, weekends and evenings. We facilitate Education (Secondary), alternative provision, therapy and therapeutic placements for children and young people. We have two sites, one based near Guildford in Surrey and one in Liss, Hampshire.

Therapeutic Work Experience/Therapeutic Placement -'TWE'

Therapeutic Work Experience (TWE Placements)

Available at Shamley Green, West Horsley and our Froxfield sites

A therapeutic placement (often called ‘Therapeutic Work Experience’) is usually selected for children and young people currently in (long term) education provisions where additional therapeutic input is needed to sustain or compliment current provision. It is also often selected for children and young people as a shorter-term therapeutic input, where traditional methods of talking therapies is not an option, and/or there is a need for a more creative approach.

This involves children and young people taking part in 2 hour group sessions, usually undertaken 1-3 times per week. It is often selected for children and young people currently in education provisions where additional therapeutic input is needed to sustain or compliment current provision. It is also often selected for children and young people as a shorter-term therapeutic input, where traditional methods of talking therapies is not an option, and/or there is a need for a more creative approach.

Many children and young people progress towards readiness for learning, which could include either another type of placement with Elysian, or an appropriate provision elsewhere.

Some children and young people continue with TWE sessions longer term alongside their education provision to support and sustain their education placement. Sessions are booked a term ahead where possible and are either termly or more long term as part of an education package, depending on the child or young persons needs, situation and reason for referral.

In practice, what happens during these sessions, varies greatly depending on the reason for referral. The generic goals are centred around increasing confidence and independence, and social and interpersonal skills. The sessions are focused around farm and animal care tasks, working in small groups, matched with children and young people with similar needs.

The TWE sessions are 2 hours long, either mornings or afternoons, Monday to Friday. Children and young people referred for TWE are usually aged 8-17yrs old on admission, though this can vary depending on what capacity and projects we have available, and the needs of the current cohort. The prgograms are grouped according to ages and needs.
