‘Siblings Together is an Animal Assisted Therapeutic Programme, that focuses on the sibling relationship’
Research tells us that sibling relationships and its dynamics have lifelong implications for individual development and adjustment (Irish, 1964) and have a significant influence on personality development (Ansbacher & Ansbacher, 1964).
The Siblings Together programme is about facilitating a therapeutic and calm space to explore in a creative way. It is facilitated using an integrated approach to developing strengths and building on tools to make positive changes, including problem solving, conflict resolution and communication.
Siblings Together is an Animal Assisted Therapeutic programme facilitated at Westland Farm.
Sibling pairs or groups take part in 50 minute sessions with the animals on the farm weekly for 6 weeks (or more).
Siblings Together is suitable for children and young people of any ages, though we would recommend from 4 to adulthood.
The programme is a particularly useful process for siblings who need some assistance in their communication, are experiencing difficulties or would benefit from healing space together. It is also very useful for attachment and self development for the individuals within the pair/group.
Sessions are usually outside, with a range of animals, and on occasion inside heated rooms/barns as needed.
The programme is facilitated by Charlotte Williams
“I grew up as one of four siblings and I have three children of my own. I have a good understanding of the significance sibling relationships can have and I have met many of the challenges that comes with being a parent of siblings.
I have worked in various social care, therapeutic and education settings, including working with children with a variety of emotional, social and behavioural difficulties. I am extremely passionate about making a difference to children and young people’s lives and I love what I do!”
Charlotte’s qualifications and experience can be found on the About Us page.
Please do get in touch should you have any queries. To book an initial session, you can email or call and we will arrange this for you.
The Family Programme
At Elysian we believe in the importance of developing relationships whilst having fun and exploring new things about ourselves, as well as those around us. The family programmes we offer are centred around the family unit doing just that. The family dynamics in each individual family play such a large part in our lives, within our family environment and beyond. Individual and additional needs often change and need time and investment in further understanding, to increase the family’s resilience and ability to cope with the stresses of day to day living.
The family programmes vary in their structure and context, and these are described below.
Looking for something fun to do as a family?
Something that will help nurture your relationships, that is suitable for you all?
Elysian at Westland are running a series of programmes for families, merging ‘Family Fun’ with ‘Therapeutic Growth’. They are suitable for all families, who wish to:
Have fun together
Spend some time nurturing relationships
Understand own family dynamics better
Work on/improve any family challenges (e.g. communication)
We are running ad-hoc days, weekly programmes and Special event days.
Each session/day/event consists of a programme of activities with our animals at the farm. You will find yourselves doing a range of activities from llama or goat walking, pig petting, rabbit racing, feeding, leading, grooming, herding or dressing up a whole range of animals, as part of Equine and Animal Assisted Therapy activities with emotional well-being and progression aims.
