In 2019, Elysian became an Approved NCFE curriculum provider, and currently offer a whole range of units and therapeutic learning for children and young people who need additional support to engage in education, or who need a more creative approach to learning.
We offer packages, combining therapeutic work experience, therapy sessions and learning units as part of supporting children and young people to ascertain their therapeutic and educational progress goals. Each young person’s package is different depending on their needs, though the common elements for all is that they all work with animals in creative ways to achieve their goals. Referrals for the alternative learning packages are usually made through the child or young person’s school and/or SEND teams, and can also come from a number of professionals.
A common educational support package can involve undertaking the NCFE Preparing for Life and Work Entry level Occupational Qualifications, supporting young people to build functional skills. There are a range of units, with the most popular ones being centred around animal care and safety, and building confidence in this area. We currently also have children and young people who undertake ASDAN accredited animal care. Children and young people undertake placements with us as an EOTAS (Education Other than in School), often starting with ‘Therapeutic Work experience’ and build from there. We are hoping to be able to offer a full education package very soon (pending registration).
